Torticollis


Torticollis, is a painfully twisted and tilted neck. The top of the head generally lilts to one side while the chin tilts to the other side.
It is also known as a crick in the neck, wry neck or loxia.
The term torticollis is derived from the Latin words tortus for twisted and collum for neck.
The most common case has no obvious cause, and the pain and difficulty with turning the head.
The type of torticollis can be described depending on the positions of the head and neck.
laterocollis : the head is tipped toward the shoulder
rotational torticollis : the head rotates along the longitudal axis
anterocollis : forward flexion of the head and neck
retrocollis : hyperextension of head and neck backward
Symptoms of wry neck can begin slowly. They may also worsen over time. The most common symptoms include:
An inability to move your head normally
Neck pain or stiffness
A headache
Having one shoulder higher than the other
Swollen neck muscles
A tilting of your chin to one side
The faces of children with congenital wry neck may appear flattened and unbalanced. They may also have motor skill delays or difficulties with hearing and vision.
Types:-

This condition can be congenital or acquired.
